DIY Where the Wild things are Party

How to do a Where the Wild things are Party on a Budget

(and make it look Pinterest worthy)

Last year (2017) we hosted a Where the wild things are Baby Shower for my sister. I used Amazon and Party city the most and managed to throw what I think to be a beautiful baby shower with not a lot of themed Party Supplies.

I started about a month and a half before the party searching Amazon and Pinterest for Ideas.

There were tons of ideas! Too bad the makers of Where the Wild things are is not into the party business these days. Wild One is a popular party theme and this book is the perfect setting for it. <3

Lets start with Decor

Since we were on a budget I decided that all decor should be multi use. We decorated the walls with Gift Onesies for the little guy (some of which I designed)

I went to the Dollar Tree and bought some Green and Yellow streamers and Gold Glitter Paper for my gift area.

For the rest of the Decor aka Main Food Table, I used These Green Pom Pom puffs around the lighting and a Burlap Banner that I wrote Welcome James. (they later hung the banner in his nursery.

You can find those supplies here <3

I am a firm believer in reading to your little one and the importance of books (real books, not kindle) for your children. So every event I have a themed book for guests to sign. I got my copy here:

I decorated the sign in table with Tropical leaves and a Stuffed Monster I found on Ebay. Funny story about those stuffed animals. You can read about it here. For the Decorative Letter I printed out pages of the book from the internet and mod lodged them   the letter. I also used stickers i found on Amazon to add some gold touches. I got some pine cones at Michaels (I live in florida, not a lot of pine trees). If you can just go outside and get some free ones, they make great decor.

Now for my Main Table!

I was so proud of how well this was set up <3

For Decor for the main table I placed my main monster there and my little max I found on Amazon. He comes with stickers and a little book 🙂

I purchased wood cuts from Michaels and made a cupcake stand for my little King Cupcakes by gluing a used masking tape ring to the side of one of the wood cuts and then gluing the other wood cut to the ring. I found the cupcake cups at Michaels too (on sale).

One of my most used purchases was this pack of Stickers. I used them everywhere! I glued them to picks and used them as Cupcake Toppers. A green table-cloth from the dollar tree was used to cover the table and the Tropical Leaves from Amazon to add more forest to the look.

I found this FREE Printable from Pinterest and used the Food Table cards and the Party hats i turned into popcorn cones 🙂

Lets talk about Food.

We kept it simple since the party was for just family. We grilled burgers and had chips and dip. I am a huge fan of Fruits and Vegetables. So we had a tray of each. We also popped popcorn for a light snack. For sweets I made a 4 tier blue ombre cake topped with a little Sailing Max. it was meant to be naked like my inspiration… https://www.pinterest.com/pin/175218241735886116/ with blue drips from the top, but it didn’t turn out that way. Pinterest fail, but you wouldn’t know it unless I Told you. The cupcakes were vanilla with chocolate frosting. you can’t go wrong with a classic. I wanted something fun and outdoorsy for a sweet treat too, and my mind went right for S’mores! so good! But i didn’t have a way to make s’mores, like a fire or flame, so I went with the next best thing. I found this Pinterest post for S’mores Bark and it was a hit. My sister tried some and fell in love.

Smores Bark

My drink bar was off to the side with my last monster guarding the plates and silverware. I got all blue plates and Utensils from the Dollar Tree. For drinks i did Ice water and Sweet tea.

Now on to DIY Gifts!

My sister was showered in Clothing during the party (most of it from me) some of it was new and some were gently used by my little one. For a Gift I made a Where the Wild things Are Diaper Cake topped with a Max Crown. and Everything sat in a Bathtub that I gifted them (Because my baby preferred the big bath) that i dressed up to look like Max’s Ship. Adorable no? to make the boat I wrapped the sides in Red poster board that I bought from the dollar tree and I drew planks on the side. Instead of Max i wrote James as a cute little touch. to make the sail stand I used the diaper cake as a base and rolled a yellow poster board with the flag section cut out. Put it in the top. So cute! The Ship also made an adorable photo spot for the children who attended the party. The Crown will be used again later for James 1st photo shoot.

Last but not least Fashion

I think when it comes to a party the hostess is part of the overall feel of the decor. So i picked a cute Navy V-Neck Dress with a circle skirt and white polka dots. The Mini host wore this adorable blue sailor outfit that was gifted to us from another dad at my job. Is it not the cutest dress! it looks like it was made for her. This party didn’t have entertainment per say, I read the “Where the wild things are” story to everyone, with Bittys’ help of course.

Thank you so much for reading and I hope my post will help you plan your own DIY Where the wild things are Party.
